Notable subsequent roles for the double Academy Award-winning actor include weepy romantic comedy Sleeping in Seattle (1993) with Meg Ryan, and the devastating Philadelphia (also '93), for which he won his first Best Actor Academy Award for his poignant part as the discriminated-against AIDS sufferer Andrew Beckett. Tom Hanks was robbed when he missed out on the 1989 Best Actor Oscar for his heartfelt, heartbreaking yet hilarious offering as Josh Baskin, a 13-year-old boy transformed into a 30-year-old bewildered man overnight after wishing to be big on the Zoltar arcade game at a carnival.
